Sign Up List Tool
Currently the project has a recently updated ORACLE-only beta version for 9.1 sp 11+ which is the result of a total rewrite to move to a database solution. When you install it you'll need to alter the Global Settings for Building Blocks to allow it to add extra tables - details of these are displayed to you before you install it, so you can see what it is doing. It also adds extra security to try and prevent spoofing or scripting attacks on Sign Up lists. Upgrade to the latest build to fix the course copy/import/export issue!

There are stable previous versions of this tool that work on Blackboard 8.x and Blackboard 9.0 but NOT 9.1. These building blocks are pre-compiled against the 8.x or 9.0 JARS they will NOT run in 9.1 as they will refer to objects/classes that no longer exist in 9.1 - thanks Blackboard (deprecation anyone?) Development of the release 8.x and 9.0 versions has ceased, largely because I don't have access to a servers running these versions, but also because the Open Database features exposed in Learn 9.1 means that finally we can get rid of data in text (XML) files.
Support for users running Blackboard on Windows
Two individuals have supplied me with forks of the code that should run on Windows/SQL Server. I am currently trying to reconcile the differences and they will be released in the next version as a common update.
Requirements for the latest Version
- Blackboard Learn 9.1 - sp11 or later
- ORACLE database (MS SQL version is currently being tested)
This tool has been developed and tested on single and load-balanced servers running:
on Blackboard 9.1 sp11 and sp12
with client computers running
- Windows XP
- Windows 7
- Maxc OS Mountain Lion
with the following browsers:
- Stable Versions of Firefox
- Stable Versions of Chrome
- Internet Explorer 8 (Compatability View On & Off)
- Internet Explorer 9 (Compatability View On & Off)
- Internet Explorer 10
- Safari 6
This testing process has been "best efforts" rather than an "exhaustive" set of tests.
|New version for sp11+
I have released a beta version of the SignUp List tool for sp11 users. This fixes reported bugs and adds supports for the new security features, profile pictures and restores receipt pages. As yet it cannot create Calendar entries for the cloud-based Calendar that supports spanning multiple days, but I am working on it.
Note this release is still an ORACLE only build.
I have been contacted by two individuals recently, offering me ports of the code to SQL Server. I am currently trying to reconcile these, test them and hope to add SQL support in the next release.
Thanks to those who provided the code - you know who you are!
|Minor bug fix available
I have just uploaded version 1.1.77 which fixes a problem some users had when trying to export data to Excel, and also allows students to see all entries on old lists.
|Interim release: version 1.1.76 fixes course copy problems
This build allows course copy again - sorry about that. It fully supports copy, export and archive functions. Import and Restore will create SignUpList shells, but not yet restore the link to the custom database tables - see the release notes for more information.
|Course Copy/Import/Export bug confirmed
Thanks to some great work by Garry Harper of Blackboard, I've been able to work out what is going wrong. Amazingly I need to define a stub course tool that does nothing to make the custom content copy, import and export process work. Only with Blackboard's code you might say!
Exact Course copy works, other types of copy, import and export may fail. The workaround is to make the building block...
A custom content type, which allows
students to sign up to events (e.g.
tutorials) where places are limited.
Instructors can add and remove users
and use the list to populate new or
existing groups in Blackboard.
